It’s been quite a week…

After months of planning and anticipation I was FINALLY ready to have my skin removal surgery. I have spent countless hours focusing on my healthier diet and working out to transform my body. I knew that no matter how much I exercised and ate right I would never be able to lose my excess skin without medical intervention. My husband and I talked about the sacrifices we would have to make in order to have this elective surgery, but decided that we were looking at it as an investment in my future. I was confident in my surgery team and was so excited to start on this new path.

I was so glad my twin sister, Christen, was with me as I prepped for surgery. The staff was so warm and I was just beaming with excitement and anticipation about my surgery. My sister even managed to get a few before pictures.

A few hours later I was in my room and surgery was over. I stayed overnight at the surgery center and had nurses that felt more like angels than nurses, they were PHENOMENAL! My surgery went well, NINE POUNDS of skin was removed and they were impressed by my progress, so I felt really great in spite of the pain. Once I was released my sister took me to my friend Lisa’s house to recover until my husband picked me up on the 1st. My sister, Christen, got me food and other miscellanous items to help make me more comfortable, then I spent the rest of the day resting.

I did my best to rest and recover over the next few days, then it was time to head home. I couldn’t have asked for a better support system after such a traumatic surgery, and I couldn’t have survivend with out Christen and Lisa.

I’ve been recovering for a week now and am progressing faster than I expected, but my body continues to remind me to slow down when I’ve pushed it too far. I’m struggling with taking it easy and accepting help from others, but am so grateful for all of the support from family, friends, and our church. I’m so excited about this new journey and look forward to seeing the final results once all of the swelling goes down. Follow up appointment in 2 days, so we’ll see how things go!
